Jordan Williams, narrator

Bernstein                             Candide Overture

Rachmaninov                   Symphonic Dances

The first half of the program showcases three iconic American composers, each using the orchestra to tell the American story, Samuel Barber’s School for Scandal to the reflective blend of music and spoken word in Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, narrated by SOST Board Member/TV personality Jordan Williams. Bernstein’s Candide Overture brings it all together with theatrical flair and boundless optimism, seamlessly setting the stage for the rich emotional world of Rachmaninov after intermission.  The Symphonic Dances was composed on Long Island NY in 1940.  All of the pieces were written in the USA.
